STURBRIDGE, Mass. (WWLP) – A group of high school runners who briefly went missing during a cross-country meet in Sturbridge Monday afternoon were all found safe following a search by local emergency crews.
According to the Sturbridge Police Department, the incident occurred during a meet hosted by Tantasqua Regional High School at the Trek Sturbridge trails near Old Sturbridge Village, where eight schools were participating.

Police said that about 15 runners strayed from the designated course and lost contact with the main group during the race. The Sturbridge Police Department and Sturbridge Fire Department immediately launched a search effort to locate the missing athletes.
“Thanks to the quick actions of our officers, dispatchers, and event staff, all runners were safely located in a short period of time,” said Police Chief Dessert in a statement. “At no point were the runners or the public in danger.”…
