Worcester Fire Department Assistant Chief Adam Roche briefed Spectrum News 1 after a multi-alarm fire heavily damaged a four unit commercial block at 821 Main Street.
Chief Roche, “The cause is still under investigation. We’re right now in the stage, in the process of determining whether we have to raze the building immediately or it can be repaired. We’re with the building commissioner right now. It seems like the building is probably going to have to be razed due to the structural damage. That is going to obviously, tremendously impede our investigation.”
Roche added that the current state of the structure is making any investigation unsafe, “We’re not going to be able to get into the building. The building conditions are not safe right now for our investigators to even go in. We were dumping water on this building, putting water on the fire till about 1’30 this morning from about eight o’clock at night. So we put tens of thousands of gallons of water in this building, which adds to the, it undermines the structural integrity. So the building’s really not safe, especially at the origin where we think the origin of the fire is.”…
