Sheriff Evangelidis highlights success of inmate-run farm, community and inmates benefits

The Worcester County Jail and House of Correction’s inmate-run organic farm is thriving, providing fresh produce to those in need, according to a community announcement.

The program, which Sheriff Lew Evangelidis revived over a decade ago, allows qualified inmates to work on the farm as part of the House of Corrections’ Work Release Program. The harvested produce benefits local food banks, senior centers, soup kitchens, veteran groups and other charitable organizations throughout Worcester County.

Inmates participating in the program gain valuable work experience, learn agricultural skills and engage in meaningful daily activities that promote responsibility and discipline. The harvested food is also provided to the inmate population within the facility…
