For the eighth time Joe Petty has been elected Mayor of the City of Worcester. After the vote tallies came in Spectrum News 1’s Dan Reidy caught up with the re-elected Mayor.
Petty said there’s still plenty for him to accomplish, “I think we have a lot of work to do. I just want to thank the voters of Worcester who believe in me and believe in my leadership and the things that we’ve accomplished together over the last seven terms and so I’m going to be working on the issues that mean a lot to people, especially when it comes to affordable housing…the homeless population, how we’re going to handle that. Also making sure our public safety departments are funded properly, making sure we continue working on our green space, investing in our parks which we have over the last fourteen years.”
Petty continued that continuing the construction of new schools will continue to be a priority, “Investing in our infrastructures in the public schools. Working on the master plan on that with Brian Allen (Superintendent of Schools), the City Manager, to make sure we can catch up on the schools that we haven’t caught up with. And that’s a lot. So it’s going to be a lot of work, but we’re going to work on that.”…
