EAST BROOKFIELD – When Tim and Cindy Dugas heard last month that the government shutdown was going to affect people receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, they thought about how beneficial that assistance had been for them when they needed it years ago, and how devastating the lack of benefits could have been.
Starting in late October, they set up a food donation system through their restaurant at The Clam Box in East Brookfield through a “pay-it-forward” system, where donations could fund pasta meals for whomever needs it.
They’re calling it the Community Care Project, and as of Nov. 6, they estimated they had given out over 100 meals…
