Paramedics union says UMass Memorial is harming ambulance coverage in Worcester

WORCESTER – City residents aren’t receiving adequate response to 911 calls because of actions taken by management at UMass Memorial Health, alleges the union that represents dozens of emergency responders.

The City of Worcester has a contract with UMass Memorial Health to supply ambulance service. The health system also provides ambulance service to Shrewsbury.

As for Worcester, Local 95 of the International Association of EMTs and Paramedics claims ambulances are understaffed because two paramedics are always taken off 911 shifts to work at the health system’s North Pavilion on Plantation Street…
