Eversource Settlement to Lower Electric and Gas Bills for Local Residents Starting January 2026

On November 26, 2025, Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell announced a $45 million settlement with Eversource Energy and its subsidiaries, NSTAR Electric and Eversource Gas of Massachusetts (EGMA). The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) approved the settlement. The agreement is expected to lower electric and gas rates for customers across the state. It resolves 16 regulatory dockets, some dating back to 2011. The settlement addresses cost recovery for Resiliency Tree Work, the Pension Adjustment Factor, and costs from Eversource’s acquisition of Columbia Gas of Massachusetts (CMA).

Under the settlement, NSTAR Electric customers will receive a $20 million rate credit starting January 1, 2026. Eversource Gas of Massachusetts customers are expected to see more than $25 million in annual savings after rates are reset following the CMA integration. The measures aim to reduce utility bills for Massachusetts consumers as winter heating costs rise.

The $45 million settlement has three main parts. First, $2.5 million will be credited to NSTAR Electric customers due to issues in the Resiliency Tree Work program’s cost recovery filings. These credits will be distributed over 12 months beginning in 2026. Second, $17.5 million will be credited to customers to resolve Pension Adjustment Factor issues, also over 12 months starting January 2026…
