Massachusetts poised to shatter 50-year ballot question record with 12 potential initiatives in 2026

Massachusetts is on track to potentially set a new record for the number of ballot questions in 2026.

Secretary of State Bill Galvin’s office reports that 11 ballot initiatives submitted signatures by the deadline, plus one gun law referendum that’s already certified — for a possible total of 12 questions. The current record is nine questions set in 1972, 1976, and 1994, while a typical year sees only two to four.
