Gov. Healey signs law boosting benefits for injured officers

BOSTON (WWLP) – Governor Healey celebrated a new law in a private ceremony on Monday, enhancing state protections for law enforcement officers who suffered major injuries due to violence in the line of duty.

While a version of this law was first signed in August of 2024, the governor held a celebration just this week and signed a new provision bringing benefits in line with those of other first responders in late November.

This piece of legislation supports officers and their families by ensuring catastrophically injured state police officers are eligible to receive disability retirement benefits equivalent to 100% of their regular pay until they reach mandatory retirement age…
