Worcester County Wonders: Priscilla Candy Shop marks 90 sweet years

GARDNER – The history surrounding the small shop on Main Street is nearly as rich as the chocolate that emerges from the kitchen. As Priscilla Candy Shop enters its 90th year in business, the fourth generation is preparing a sweet future for the business.

Founded in 1936 by Charlie Stephano, the shop was then passed down to his daughter Ginny Stephano and her husband, Pete Trudel, who took over in 1983, until 2006 when the store once again changed hands within the family, this time being passed to daughter Maureen Trudel and her husband, Jimmy Gallant.

Nowadays, one of Maureen and Jimmy’s sons, Peter Gallant, can be found hard at work alongside his father, learning everything about the sweet business of candy making…
