Webster Man Identified as Second Arrest in Thompson Arson Investigation

Thompson, CT — A Webster, MA man has been charged for his role in the 2024 arson and attempted murder on Buckley Hill Road in Thompson.

According to the Connecticut State Police, on February 16, 2026, 59-year-old James A. Chenevert, also known as “Indy,” of Webster, MA, was arrested and held on a $500,000 bond for the following charges:

  • Conspiracy to Commit Arson 1st Degree – Occupied Building (C.G.S. 53a-48/53a-111(a)(1))
  • 2 counts of Criminal Attempt at Murder (C.G.S. 53a-49/53a-54a)

Court records indicate the charges stem from the May 13, 2024, house fire on Buckley Hill Road in Thompson. Investigators allege the occupied residence was intentionally set on fire during the early morning hours, as retaliation for unpaid drug money allegedly owed by the residents’ son. Two individuals were inside the home at the time of the fire and were able to escape. Fire investigators later determined the blaze was incendiary in nature.

As previously reported, the State filed arson and attempted murder charges earlier this month in connection with the same incident. You can read our full coverage of the investigation here…
