Tuesday morning in Goddard Hall at Worcester Regional Airport, Massport and members of the First Launch Centennial unveiled a steel silhouette honoring the legacy of Robert Goddard. In 1926 Goddard, who was educated and lived in Worcester, successfully launched the first liquid propelled rocket in Auburn at modern-day Pakachoag Golf Course. Charles Slatkin, Founder of the First Launch Centennial, said Goddard Hall at the airport was a logical place for a Goddard silhouette. “The space trail is a virtual and physical road map of all the sites around Worcester that were instrumental in Goddard’s legacy and Worcester’s role in ushering in the space age.
