4 former Mass. State Police troopers, 2 local officers lose certifications

The Massachusetts police oversight board has decertified four former State Police troopers and two municipal officers, revoking their licenses to work in law enforcement over a range of misconduct both on and off the job.

Among the troopers decertified by the state’s Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission, or POST, were two men sentenced to prison for awarding commercial driver’s licenses to unqualified applicants.

Gary Cederquist, a former sergeant, was described as the ringleader of a scheme to give preferential treatment to certain applicants on the commercial driver’s license exam, which tests the ability to operate tractor-trailers and other large vehicles. In return, he received thousands of dollars in gifts and services, including a new driveway, according to federal investigators…
