Jabil Calls It Quits in Clinton, MA

Contract manufacturing giant Jabil has announced that it will wind down operations in its Clinton, MA, facility, according to media reports. Its NyproMold and NP Medical subsidiaries will continue to operate at the site, the company said.

“After a comprehensive review of our manufacturing footprint, business demand, and long-term strategic needs, we have made the difficult decision to wind down operations at our Clinton, Massachusetts, facility and consolidate production to our nearby Devens facility,” a company spokesperson said in a prepared statement. “We anticipate Jabil operations at the Clinton site will be completed by the end of November 2026.”

Nypro acquired in 2013

Jabil provides manufacturing services with a specialization in electronics from more than 100 sites across the world, employing more than 140,000 people. It acquired Nypro, a custom injection molder serving the healthcare and other sectors, along with the Clinton campus in 2013.

At the time of the acquisition, PlasticsToday reported Nypro would benefit from Jabil’s reach into its global customer base, while Jabil gained a well respected plastics molding supplier in the medical device market, which would have been too expensive and time-consuming for Jabil to build on its own. The $665-million deal brought approximately 10,000 Nypro employees into the Jabil fold.

Employees offered transfer opportunities

Jabil did not detail the number of jobs affected by the switch to Devens. A spokesperson told media, however, that the company is actively working to provide affected employees with transfer opportunities to Jabil’s facility in Devens and other US locations…
