DA identifies woman who died after rescue from 3-alarm house fire in Southbridge

A woman who died after being rescued from a three-alarm house fire in Southbridge Monday afternoon has been identified as 68-year-old Elizabeth Haight, the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.

Firefighters responded to a home at 417 South St. just after 3 p.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the windows, the Southbridge Fire Department said Monday. Neighbors informed first responders that a first-floor resident was still inside.

After making their way into the house, firefighters searched for the resident and found Haight. She was taken to Harrington Hospital in Southbridge in critical condition and later flown by medical helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where she died of her injuries…
