Fresh Monkee Swings Into Southborough With New Protein Shake Stop

Fresh Monkee, the Connecticut-born protein shake chain, is lining up a Southborough debut for this spring, with a more precise target of late spring 2026 once construction and health inspections clear. Franchisee Patrice Kontchou, who launched a Westborough location last June, is aiming to turn the compact storefront into a fast in-and-out option for commuters, gym regulars and families cruising along nearby Route 9. The brand markets its drinks as high-protein, low-sugar meal replacements for people who want something quick but a bit more substantial than a gas-station snack.

Company listings place the new shop at 118 Turnpike Rd, Suite 101, and the brand currently labels the Southborough site as “coming soon.” According to Fresh Monkee, the Southborough location is expected to start with a soft opening, with hours that may shift while the team settles in. The suite sits in a small retail cluster that already pulls in workout crowds and Route 9 traffic, so the chain is clearly betting on built-in footfall.

Plans and permits

The Southborough project moved through local review via a Minor Site Plan application that converts the space from office use to a restaurant. The Southborough Planning Board packet cites a site plan dated Aug. 6, 2025 and lists Patrice Kontchou of Healthy Shakes LLC as the applicant, detailing the proposed change of use. Related paperwork on file with the Town of Southborough shows the applicant seeking approvals for shared parking and final inspections before doors can officially open, according to the Town of Southborough Planning Board agenda.

Menu and brand footprint

Local reporting notes that Fresh Monkee’s menu features more than 30 protein shake flavors, bite-sized Monkee Ballz snacks and even a Puppy Shake for four-legged customers. What Now Boston reports that the company now operates in multiple states, with more than 40 locations across 11 states, including seven in Massachusetts. The chain leans into whole-fruit and nut-butter blends that pack at least 20 grams of protein per shake, all aimed squarely at post-workout customers and anyone chasing a grab-and-go meal replacement.

Kontchou told What Now Boston the Southborough shop will come in at roughly 1,350 square feet, adding that “we’re excited about this next step and the opportunity to serve the Southborough community.” Her Westborough opening last year has already given the team a local blueprint they expect to reuse for staffing and managing peak-hour rushes…
