Convicted murderer who beat man to death in Mass. denied parole

A convicted murderer who beat a man to death in Wareham in 2004 has been denied parole by the Massachusetts Parole Board.

In January 2011, 40-year-old Robert Silva was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of 47-year-old Thomas Loftus. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole and has served 19 years.

Because Silva was 18 at the time of the killing, he became eligible for parole following a 2024 Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision that ruled it unconstitutional to sentence defendants who were 18 to 20 when their crime was committed to life in prison without parole…
