Developer Proposes 250 Housing Units at Former Tanela Restaurant Site in Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY, Mass. — A Worcester-based developer is proposing a major mixed-use redevelopment that would bring up to 250 housing units to the site of the former Tanela Restaurant and Golden Star Motel, according to a report by the Worcester Business Journal.

GoVenture Capital Group has submitted plans to demolish the long-vacant buildings at 525 Hartford Turnpike, a property that has remained unused for more than a decade, WBJ reported. In their place, the developer is seeking approval to construct a 12,000-square-foot commercial and retail building along with two five-story residential buildings totaling up to 250 units.

The proposal also includes infrastructure improvements, notably a new access road connecting Route 20 to Stoney Hill Road behind the property.
