Worcester to host 9 World Cup watch parties through $10M state grant

WORCESTER – Worcester will be awarded a portion of a $10 million grant Gov. Maura T. Healey is providing from the Sports and Entertainment Events Fund Grant to support World Cup watch parties across the state.

“These events will create opportunities for residents and visitors to come together, celebrate the world’s game, support our local businesses and experience the energy and connection that sports can inspire,” Healey said in a press release.

City Council Vice Chairman Khrystian E. King brought the idea to host watch parties to council during a March 10 meeting when he placed a resolution on the agenda for Worcester to be the official host city for Ghanaian fans during the 2026 FIFA World Cup…
