Troopers Plead Not Guilty In Enrique Delgado Garcia Death

Enrique Delgado-Garcia, 25, of Worcester, died in September 2024 after participating in an unapproved boxing drill with a more experienced instructor at the Massachusetts State Police Academy in New Braintree, while already complaining of headaches and memory loss following another bout, the outlet said, citing prosecutors on the case.

Instructors are accused of failing to intervene, NBC says, as Delgado-Garcia was struck several more times to the head before ultimately losing consciousness and dying of a brain injury at a hospital, as reported by CBS News.

Four state police instructors, Lt. Jennifer Penton, Trooper Edwin Rodriguez, Trooper David Montanez, and Trooper Casey LaMonte, are charged in connection with his death, with charges including involuntary manslaughter and causing serious bodily injury. Penton, Rodriguez, and Montanez pleaded not guilty, while LaMonte is scheduled to be arraigned April 14.
