BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) – The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife is reminding the public to give wildlife their space and observe from a distance.
Abandoned bear cub reunites with mother in Easthampton
Last week, MassWildlife observed a great horned owl in Belchertown. They say the young owl has recently developed its feathers and is still learning to fly, known as a fledgling. The young owl was found near the road and appeared to be uninjured.
The staff observed the owl from a safe distance and made sure to give it plenty of space. The mother owl later came to check on her young one. Officials are reminding residents that young wildlife are not abandoned even if seen on their own, and the best thing to do is give them space and observe from afar.
In the video shared by MassWildlife on social media states, “You can see it trying to appear larger with its posture and hear the clicking sounds it was making — both are signs telling us to keep our distance.”
