Worcester firefighter hit by car remembered as ‘hero at home’

A Worcester man who died after being hit by a car while crossing the street was remembered in his obituary for his record of community service, including a long stint as a firefighter.

James McGuire, 61, was struck by a vehicle May 10 while trying to cross near 137 Hope Ave. in Worcester. He was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.

McGuire was born in Worcester and graduated from Worcester Vocational Technical High School, according to his obituary. He served as a firefighter in Princeton, Spencer and Rutland, and later joined the Department of Developmental Services, where he worked in group homes throughout Central Massachusetts…
