Massachusetts residents planning to go out on the water this summer may need something they haven’t in the past — a boating certificate.
Due to a new law that went into effect April 1, Bay Staters born in 1989 or later must acquire a boater safety certificate to operate a motorboat. Those born before 1989 have until April 2028 to get their certificate.
