HUDSONVILLE, Mich. — The Hudsonville teenager who was shot multiple times in Alabama and pleaded guilty to a federal machine gun charge learned his sentence in court on Tuesday.
Ethan Carter was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert J. Jonker in Grand Rapids after pleading guilty in February to one count of possession and transfer of a machine gun conversion device.
The sentence falls below federal sentencing guidelines, which call for 24 to 30 months. Carter’s defense team had asked for time served, roughly six months of pretrial detention, arguing Carter’s youth, his father’s influence and the near-fatal July 2025 shooting that preceded his arrest all warranted a “significant downward variance.”…
