LANDRUM—The Landrum City Council met on Tuesday, June 9, at Landrum City Hall, where members approved funding for Landrum Rescue Squad 11, advanced plans for a future elementary school, selected a new information technology provider, and approved first-reading changes to the city’s noise ordinance.
The meeting began with presentations recognizing local organizations and preserving pieces of Landrum history. Council also received a collection of historical documents donated by Rita Landrum for use in the Landrum Rail & History Museum. Landrum told the council she had been sorting through family records and had uncovered several items connected to the city’s namesake family.
The donation included a Confederate Army chaplain’s commission for John Gill Landrum, a late-1800s portrait of Landrum, and a centennial copy of South Carolina’s ordinance of secession bearing his signature.
