Landrum Council advances school rezoning, changes to proposed noise ordinance

LANDRUM—The Landrum City Council met on Tuesday, June 9, at Landrum City Hall, where members approved funding for Landrum Rescue Squad 11, advanced plans for a future elementary school, selected a new information technology provider, and approved first-reading changes to the city’s noise ordinance.

The meeting began with presentations recognizing local organizations and preserving pieces of Landrum history. Council also received a collection of historical documents donated by Rita Landrum for use in the Landrum Rail & History Museum. Landrum told the council she had been sorting through family records and had uncovered several items connected to the city’s namesake family.

The donation included a Confederate Army chaplain’s commission for John Gill Landrum, a late-1800s portrait of Landrum, and a centennial copy of South Carolina’s ordinance of secession bearing his signature. Landrum said she and her family were pleased the city now has a museum where the materials can be preserved and displayed…
