10 Years Later: Florida Lawmakers Honor The 49 Lives Stolen At Pulse Nightclub

Today marks exactly 10 years since the mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, and two Florida lawmakers are advancing a new resolution to honor the victims. U.S. Senators Rick Scott and Ashley Moody introduced the measure to officially remember the 49 people killed in what remains the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil since September 11, 2001.

On June 12, 2016, a gunman inspired by ISIS opened fire inside the venue, specifically targeting the local LGBTQ and Hispanic communities. Dozens more were wounded in the violence. The newly drafted Senate resolution pays tribute to those whose lives were cut short, honors the survivors, and formally thanks the police and medical personnel who responded to the scene.

Senator Scott spent time reflecting on how the local community reacted to the tragedy a decade ago.

“After the despicable, evil act of terrorism at Pulse, Floridians came together to support one another and reject hate,” Scott said. “An attack meant to instill fear and tear apart communities only made Floridians stronger.”…
