SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is alerting San Diego drivers to expect heavy traffic around the Coronado bridge and nearby freeways through downtown San Diego as tens of thousands of people head to the first-ever San Diego NASCAR races.
NASCAR San Diego weekend takes place on Naval Base Coronado June 19-21. Grandstand tickets for Sunday’s Anduril Race the Base 250 are completely sold out, but you can join the online waitlist.

Caltrans is alerting drivers to plan ahead this weekend as NASCAR hosts three days of events. Long delays are anticipated on the Coronado Bridge and on surrounding roadways and freeways as large crowds of people head to and from Coronado.
All official event parking will be on Naval Base Coronado. A valid ID is required to enter the base, and a digital color-coded parking pass is required to park at NASCAR San Diego lots on Naval Base Coronado.

Biking, carpooling, rideshare and taking the Coronado Ferry are suggested as alternatives to driving. The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) will also have service to the NASNI Transit Center.
