San Antonio dealership sues 3 banks over nearly $1M impersonation scam

A San Antonio car dealership that says it lost nearly $1 million in a sophisticated bank-impersonation scam has sued Broadway Bank, Discover Bank and Capital One over alleged failures to stop and recover the fraudulent wire transfers.

Jim Dunworth Inc.’s lawsuit alleges fraudsters posing as Broadway employees persuaded dealership executives to follow their instructions while almost $1 million was drained from company bank accounts.

Dunworth accuses Broadway of waiting nearly an hour to issue its first recall request after learning of the fraud and that Discover failed to freeze accounts or stop transfers after receiving notice that the transactions were unauthorized…
