Troopers arriving to the area around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday determined that a motorcyclist lost control of their vehicle while heading east, causing the rider to stray into the opposite lane and collide head-on with a westbound 2025 Kia. The rider, later identified as 30-year-old Nicholas Hedges of Red Hook, was declared dead at the scene, according to State Police.

The driver of the Kia and their front passenger were both taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital to be treated for non-life threating injuries. The Greenport Fire Department assisted NYSP with the operation.
