K9 Warning Ends Two-Month Manhunt For Driver In Fatal Polk County Hit-And-Run

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A fatal hit-and-run case that began two months ago ended Tuesday with the arrest of two men in Polk County. Detectives say they finally caught up with the driver responsible for the death of a local man, along with an elderly resident who tried to shield him from the law.

The case dates back to the early morning hours of April 23, 2026. Deputies discovered 39-year-old Brandon Roy Moran of Polk City dead on Fussell Road. He was found near the 4-wheeler he had been riding. At the scene, traffic homicide investigators gathered pieces of debris pointing toward a specific getaway vehicle: a 2009-2014 Hyundai Sonata.

Detectives began searching databases for matches and located a 2012 Hyundai Sonata registered in Auburndale, roughly 11 miles away from the crash site. When investigators inspected the vehicle, they recovered physical evidence that confirmed it was the exact car involved in the collision…
