HOOSICK, N.Y. (NEWS10) — An investigation is underway following a fatal drowning in the Hoosic River on Saturday, according to New York State Police. The incident reportedly occurred in the area of State Route 67 near the intersection of Beck Road in Hoosick.

State Police were dispatched to the scene just after 7 p.m. following a report of a missing swimmer. According to an investigation, a family had been swimming in the area when an adult swimmer became distressed due to a strong current, went underwater and did not return to the surface.
The missing swimmer was found dead nearby during a subsequent search of the water, police said.
