Recovery effort underway for missing Camp Pendleton Marine

A search and recovery operation was underway off the coast of Southern California this weekend for a missing Camp Pendleton-based Marine, according to Navy officials.

The Makin Island Amphibious Readiness Group initiated search-and- rescue efforts at 1:21 a.m. Thursday off the coast of Southern California, after a U.S. Marine was reported missing, according to a statement released Saturday.

The Marine was serving aboard the San Diego-based amphibious transport dock ship USS Anchorage (LPD 23) during integrated training between the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, the Navy said…
