Woman drowns after saving her child from strong Hoosic River currents

HOOSICK (WRGB) — A 42-year-old Albany woman drowned in the Hoosic River after helping her child reach safety after being caught in a strong current, according to New York State Police.

State Police identified the victim as Janice Ganz, 42, of Albany. Investigators said back on June27, Ganz had been swimming with her child when the two were caught up in a strong current.

State Police said Ganz assisted in getting her child to safety but went under the water and did not resurface. The investigation is ongoing…
