Albany Police Department released information on parking restrictions and road closures for the Fourth of July festivities at the Empire State Plaza.
The free event, headlined by Sugar Ray, kicks off at 5 p.m. Saturday. The evening will feature performances by Fulton Lee, The Ill Funk Ensemble, DJ Mr. CEO, the New York state military color guard, Troy Music Academy and Dance Dimensions, and will also include bounce houses, an America 250 costume contest, Revolutionary War reenactors, exhibits, circus performers, food vendors and, of course, fireworks.
Road closures for Albany fireworks
From 5 a.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday, the following will be closed to all traffic:
- The upper Lincoln Park roadways between Delaware Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard, including roadways to the Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology and the tennis court, basketball court, spray pool and former Sunshine School
From 5 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Saturday, the following will be closed except for local and emergency traffic:
- Madison Place between Eagle Street and Philip Street
- Philip Street between Madison Avenue and Myrtle Avenue
- Elm Street between Eagle Street and Grand Street
- Wilbur Street between Philip Street and Grand Street
- Bleeker Place between Philip Street and Eagle Street
- Myrtle Avenue between Eagle Street and Grand Street
From 5 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Saturday, the following will be closed to all but authorized event and emergency vehicles:
- State Street between South Swan Street and Eagle Street
- Park Street between Lancaster Street and State Street
From 4 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Saturday, the following will be closed to all but authorized event and emergency vehicles:
- Madison Avenue between South Swan Street and Eagle Street
Parking restrictions for Empire State Plaza fireworks
From 5 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Saturday:
- State Street, both sides from South Swan Street to Eagle Street
- Madison Place, north Side from Eagle Street to Philip Street
- Elm Street, north side from Eagle Street to Grand Street
- Philip Street, east side from Madison Avenue to Warren Street
- Bleeker Street, south side from Philip Street to Eagle Street
- Madison Avenue, both sides from South Swan Street to Eagle Street
- Washington Avenue, north side from Eagle Street to South Swan Street
- Washington Avenue, south side from South Swan Street east to opposite North Hawk Street
- Washington Avenue, north side from South Swan Street west to 111 Washington Ave.
- North Hawk Street, east and west sides from Washington Avenue to Elk Street
From 5 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, the following will be closed to all traffic:
- The upper Lincoln Park roadways between Delaware Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard, including roadways to the Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology and the tennis court, basketball court, spray pool and former Sunshine School
Free parking will be available in the visitor and “P” lots under the plaza, the Grand Street and Elk Street lots and the East and Sheridan Hollow garages; roof access will not be available at the two garages.
