Chad Palmer, the 33-year-old Orrville man accused of stabbing Wayne County Sheriff Thomas Ballinger and Sgt. Dan Broome, appeared in court Wednesday morning.

During a competency hearing, Wayne County Common Pleas Judge Corey Spitler ruled that Palmer is not currently competent to stand trial.

Judge Spitler said Palmer is able to understand the legal proceedings against him but is not capable of assisting in his own defense. As a result, the judge found him incompetent to stand trial at this time…
