Former Chattanooga police chief asks judge to move trial out of Hamilton County

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Former Chattanooga Police Chief Celeste Murphy is asking a judge to move her criminal trial out of Hamilton County, arguing extensive publicity has made it impossible to seat an impartial jury.

A hearing on that request was supposed to happen Wednesday afternoon before Senior Judge Don Ash. But it has now been rescheduled for July 29th.

Murphy faces multiple felony charges, including forgery, perjury, official misconduct, false entries in government records and illegal voter registration. She has pleaded not guilty…
