LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — The former University of Louisiana at Lafayette athletics official at the center of a state audit alleging falsified recruiting expenses sat down with News 15 for his only television interview on the matter, saying the events in question were legal but processed incorrectly.
Troy Wingerter, former associate athletic director for UL Athletics, was forced to retire following the release of a Louisiana Legislative Audit that cited the misappropriation of funds involving recruits. The audit referenced more than $5,000 — and separately noted nearly $6,000 — spent on alcohol and food expenses at recruiting events in 2024 and 2025.
