LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Health officials are investigating as an outbreak of cyclosporiasis, a parasitic illness that can cause “explosive” diarrhea, continues to grow across multiple Michigan counties.
More than 170 cases have been reported across several counties over the past nine days, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said in a Wednesday release. It said it is investigating the outbreak alongside the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and several local health departments.
Monroe County has the most cases, with 70. Lenawee County has 33; Washtenaw County, 21; Wayne County, 12; Jackson County, 7; Shiawassee County, 7. There has also been 24 cases across 11 other counties and the city of Detroit…
