Vincent Pastore, the seasoned actor widely recognized for his portrayal of mobsters and tough characters-most notably Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on the acclaimed series The Sopranos-has passed away at the age of 80.
His manager, Bob McGowan, who has represented Pastore since his Sopranos days, shared with The Associated Press that he learned of the actor’s passing on Saturday from fellow Sopranos actor Vincent Curatola. Pastore was discovered at his home on City Island, New York, after friends and colleagues had not heard from him in several days.
McGowan expressed his admiration for Pastore’s character, highlighting his loyalty and generosity. “He was the most loyal client and he always gave to charity,” McGowan said. “He was the kind of guy who would help anybody, which is rare in my business.”
Pastore’s acting career spanned several decades, beginning in the 1980s, with notable roles in films such as Goodfellas and Awakenings in 1990. However, it was his portrayal of Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero in The Sopranos, appearing in 30 episodes as a close friend of Tony Soprano who becomes an FBI informant, that cemented his legacy.
Born in the Bronx and raised in New Rochelle, New York, Pastore served in the Navy during the Vietnam War before attending Pace University. He is survived by his daughter, Renee Pastore.
