Afternoon Gunfire Near Optimist Park Leaves One Fighting For Life

An early afternoon shooting just off Optimist Park left one person with life-threatening injuries today, according to city medics.

The gunfire broke out around 1:15 p.m. on North Caldwell Street near East 12th Street in the Optimist Park neighborhood of north Charlotte. Police quickly blocked off the area while investigators worked the scene and spoke with witnesses.

According to WSOC-TV, MEDIC crews transported the victim from the scene, and the station reported that the injuries were described as life-threatening and that no additional details had been released while the case remains under investigation.
