BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY: First Alert Weather Days have been extended through Saturday due to dangerous heat index values and the potential for strong storms each afternoon. Highs this afternoon will be between 94 and 99 degrees but will feel more like 105 to 110 degrees. The heat advisory has been extended through Friday night. Please make sure to stay hydrated and find shade!
Scattered storms are possible again this afternoon and early evening. There is a marginal risk (level 1/5) for all of Central Alabama and a slight risk (level 2/5) for Etowah, Calhoun, Cherokee, and Cleburne counties. A few storms could become severe, producing intense lightning, damaging wind gusts, and up to quarter-sized hail. Storms are expected to fade as the sun goes down.
HOLIDAY WEEKEND: The overall forecast for the 4th of July weekend looks typical for summer in Alabama. Extreme heat will remain possible, with heat index values topping 105°. We’ll maintain a chance for scattered afternoon storms Friday and Saturday. Storms will gradually fall apart as the sun goes down, leading to improving weather for Thunder on the Mountain, which you can watch after baseball Saturday night on WBRC.
