The Lake Township Historical Society is asking residents to save the date for its America 250 at Hickory Run Farm event from 1-5 p.m. July 26.
The afternoon of history, heritage and patriotic celebration will commemorate America’s 250th anniversary at Hickory Run Farm in Hartville. Dr. Mark Smith will serve as host. Proceeds will benefit the Lake Township Historical Society.
The event will feature tours of the historic 19th-century farmhouse, the Pioneer Museum and the recently restored early 20th-century Dutch barn. Several family-friendly activities also will be offered, including tractor-pulled wagon rides, lunch and snacks, including the Historical Society’s famous hot dogs and coney dogs, folk music and patriotic singalongs.
Joe Matzzie will perform in the upper level of the barn on the hammered dulcimer, mandolin and other traditional instruments while performing American folk music and sharing the history of American folk instruments. A Pittsburgh-based multi-instrumentalist, guitarist and singer, Matzzie has released six albums and numerous singles, including his latest, “Ready and Willing and Able.” An award-winning songwriter, his recording style falls within Americana folk, although his authentic charm has often been compared to that of jazz legend Cab Calloway.
Also performing will be Gabrielle FitzPatrick, known as the Illuminated Harpist, who will play harp music in the solarium…
