LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Capital Region Airport Authority will begin a $12.5 million reconstruction of key roadways serving Capital Region International Airport this month, a project the authority says will improve safety, traffic flow and the airport’s readiness for economic development.
The first of five construction phases starts Monday, July 6, and runs through Sept. 6 between Airport Road and Capital City Boulevard. The full project is scheduled to continue through August 2027, with the timing of the remaining four phases still to be determined.
The work covers both a 2.3-mile stretch of Port Lansing Road from DeWitt Road to Airport Road, and a 0.4-mile section of Capital City Boulevard from Grand River Avenue to West Circle Drive. Both will be rebuilt to all-season Class A standards, which the authority says will better accommodate truck traffic and support future development at the airport.
