Boston Police Union Condemns Weekend Violence, Cites Lack of Leadership Support

In a strongly worded letter released Sunday, the Boston Police Detectives Benevolent Society (BPDBS) highlighted a surge of violent crime over the July 4th weekend, criticizing city leaders and department officials for what it calls a “lackadaisical” approach to supporting exhausted officers.

The union detailed a chaotic six-hour period in which at least 11 people were shot and 2 were stabbed across several Boston neighborhoods. The incidents, which occurred between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, included multiple shootings with homicide requests and an attack on uniformed officers.
