‘Your Teeth Will Fall Out’: Iowa Hygienist disciplined for pressuring patient into treatment

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A Dental Hygienist pressured a patient into an expensive treatment plan he did not need, a state board said.

The Iowa Dental Board reached a settlement agreement with Abby Young, a dental hygienist in Cedar Rapids. The settlement cites Young with a warning and requires her to take an educational course on periodontics and ethics.

According to the final order from the board, Young told a patient he had periodontal disease and that his teeth would fall out if he did not get treatment as soon as possible. However, after the procedure, the patient’s insurance company, Delta Dental, concluded the procedure was not medically necessary and denied the claim…
