Study: Des Moines Ranked Most Dangerous City in Iowa for Vehicle Thefts

(Iowa) — A new study ranks Des Moines as the most dangerous city in Iowa for vehicle thefts.

American Trucks analyzed data from the FBI and the U.S. Census Bureau to rank 281 cities across the country based on the number of vehicle thefts per 100,000 residents in 2025. Des Moines ranked 61st on the list, the highest among Iowa’s major cities, with an average of 438 vehicle thefts per 100,000 residents last year.

Davenport ranked 141st on the list, with an average of 257.1 vehicle thefts per 100,000 residents in 2025. Cedar Rapids came in a number 205, with an average of 160.9 stolen vehicles per 100,000 residents during the same time period…
