CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Teachers and other state-funded employees will receive salary increases following Governor Josh Stein’s signing of a $34.4 billion state budget into law Tuesday morning.
Although the new state budget represents a positive investment in North Carolina’s public education, many educators have argued that the pay increase doesn’t fully satisfy what is necessary to recruit and maintain the workforce.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education believes the budget shows “meaningful progress” and recognizes the importance of educators in the state, but argues “recognition and adequate compensation are not the same.”…
