Black smoke from Juarez landfill fire visible across El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A fire at a landfill in Ciudad Juarez sent thick black smoke drifting across the U.S.-Mexico border early Tuesday morning.

Officials said the fire broke out around 4 a.m. at the city’s landfill, the Relleno Sanitario.

Burning trash produced large plumes of black smoke that were visible from El Paso throughout the morning on July 7. Video from the scene showed flames spreading across portions of the landfill overnight as emergency crews worked to contain the blaze. By sunrise, dense smoke continued to billow into the sky while firefighters remained on scene battling the fire…
