FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) — Significant reductions in state funding are causing Freeport School District to eliminate a bus route for 62 students beginning with the 2026-27 school year, according to the district.
The transportation cut comes after the Freeport School District announced earlier this year it is facing an $11 million deficit.
The district is cutting transportation for students who live within a one-and-a-half mile distance from school. Students are eligible for busing at 1.5 miles or with a serious safety hazard designation.
