Dallas PD Investigation Leads to Cold Case Arrest

Over a decade ago, the Department of Justice launched the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) and partnered with police departments all over the country to help collect and review DNA evidence that could be used to address many of the unsolved sexual assault cases.

In 2021, Detective Elizabeth DeAngelis, a veteran in the Dallas Police Department with experience in VICE and Human Trafficking, was asked to spearhead the SAKI initiative and begin working on sexual assault cases that went cold. Eager to give a voice to the voiceless, she accepted and began working on the department’s oldest cold cases.

In February 2026, Detective Elizabeth DeAngelis received a notification that there was a DNA match on one of her cases that went unsolved for over a decade. After thoroughly reviewing the case file and available evidence, she partnered with Detective Sara Sheerin, another veteran in the Dallas Police Department who was also cast in Police Women of Dallas.
